The Mothers Offering Music (M.O.M.) Scholarship began in memory of Velda Stokke & Laura Walker to honor their teaching, appreciation and love of music.

Velda Stokke held a doctorate degree in education and spent more than 40 years teaching music in Nebraska public schools. Her daughter, DeEtte Person, is a member of New Covenant Lutheran Church.

Laura Walker delighted in children and music and instilled her love of music in her four daughters, two of whom – Patti Kruse and Nancy Waldeck – are members of New Covenant Lutheran Church.

M.O.M. Scholarships are available each session to children who would like to have music lessons at the New Covenant Arts Academy, but the tuition would be a hardship to the family.

The M.O.M. Scholarship began in 2023 with memorials in Velda and Laura’s honor.  To continue its growth and reach, a percentage of the proceeds from the church’s Mother’s Day Brunch will be given to the scholarship fund and additional donations from other individuals.
