Volunteers Needed for Water Delivery

Would you be able to volunteer to deliver water 1 week or multiple weeks from mid-June through August? Here’s some information if you are interested:

  • Coordinate meeting Bill Cope
  • Purchase and load a pallet of water at Costco (44th Street and Oak Street, Phoenix)
  • Drive pallet of water to Grace Lutheran Church (3rd Street and Moreland Street, Phoenix)
  • Unload pallet of water with help from the homeless at Grace Lutheran Church
  • Return pallet (if necessary) to Costco

IMPORTANT NOTE: Since a pallet of water weighs approximately 2000 lbs., you need to make sure your vehicle can carry that weight or volunteer with a friend so that the water can be split between multiple vehicles.

Contact Bill Cope at bcope5@cox.net or 480-236-5382 for more information and to sign up.

Completed Missions

May 2022

New Covenant Lutheran Church will be collecting monetary donations for the Grand Canyon Synod’s Growing Generosity Appeal.  New Covenant Lutheran Church has committed to raise $2,500 to help plant seeds for Lutheran Campus Ministry and new & emerging ministries.

Campus ministry provides a Lutheran presence on college campuses.  Approximately one-third of those participating in campus ministry have never been part of a Lutheran church. Campus ministry provides an invaluable opportunity to reach young people who are yearning for connection and meaning.

With demographics changing and people in our synod becoming younger and more diverse, we must shape our ministries to be meaningful to this wider audience. Emerging ministries involve efforts to meet these changing needs. Funds raised for emerging ministries will provide additional seed money to support these ministries as they grow and prosper, especially as we emerge from the pandemic.

You can still make a monetary donation online by clicking the Donate Now button above and donating to the Growing Generosity fund or you can drop your donation in the Sunday offering or mail your donation to the church office – 15152 N. Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard, Scottsdale, AZ 85260 (indicate on check or envelope Synod Appeal).

April 24, 2022

For ONE WEEK ONLY, New Covenant Lutheran Church will be collecting beans, rice and flour for Casa de la Miseracordia run by Sister Lika.  If you would like to make a monetary donation, it will need to be made via cash or check to New Covenant Lutheran Church and can be delivered to the office or put in the offering box (indicate on the check Casa de la Miseracordia) .

Casa de la Miseracordia is a shelter in Nogales, Mexico that provides shelter, safety and community for women, children and men who are waiting to seek asylum in the U.S. Sister Lika sees that everyone is included in the care of the property, inside and out. Families cook meals each day, while men provide security around the property. Still, others clean the facilities and tend the grounds. Children assist the adults in growing food in the gardens. Women and young people weave, sew and watch over the youngest children. Sister Lika coordinates with the Ministries of Education and Health to oversee the teachers, nurses and doctors who minister to the residents of the shelter. There is a constant need for food and supplies to sustain the families. This is a profound and meaningful ministry that we are in a position to support. The Grand Canyon Synod helps support this mission through a program known as Cruzando Fronteras.

UPDATE: You rose up to meet our one week challenge by donating 169 lbs. of rice, 133 lbs. of flour and 166 lbs. of beans. Many THANKS for your generosity.
