Dead Sea Scrolls Bible Study

February 4 – April 1, 2026

The Men’s Bible Study Group is sponsoring an in-depth study of the Dead Sea Scrolls on Wednesdays beginning, Feb. 4th at 7 a.m. at New Covenant Lutheran Church.

About 2,000 years ago, a holy man arose among the Jews of Palestine. He gathered around himself disciples and founded a community based on what he called the ‘new covenant’ between God and Israel. Entrance into this community was through a ritual of water washing in which the Holy Spirit forgave one’s sins. After the death of the founder, the community continued to celebrate a daily meal of bread and wine, as they awaited the return of the Son of David and the coming of the Kingdom of God.

The Story sounds familiar, but we are not talking about Jesus and the Church.  The holy man we are discussing is a mysterious figure known as the ‘Teacher of Righteousness’ and the community he founded made its home at a place called Qumran on the northwest shore of the Dead Sea.  Thousands of years later, in the caves around Qumran, we would discover the remains of their library, which we call the ‘Dead Sea Scrolls’.

Join us for a 9-session, in depth study of the Dead Sea Scrolls’ sectarian literature as it relates to the Bible and Jesus.  This will be a deep dive into the book “Jesus and the Dead Sea Scrolls:  Revealing the Jewish Roots of Christianity” by John Bergsma.  Sessions will be Hosted by Larry Person and the Men’s Group and held at New Covenant Lutheran Church at 7 AM on Wednesdays throughout February and March. Everyone is welcome to join us.
