Completed Missions

December 2024

Our December Monthly Mission is a Christmas Angel Tree to support 4 families with 10 children through the Vista del Camino Center and 4 seniors through Scottsdale’s Senior Centers. Christmas Angels can be picked from the Christmas Tree in the church narthex beginning Sunday, November 17th.

Senior Gift Info
The gifts for seniors do not need to be wrapped. If you would like to drop off their gift in a gift bag, it would be greatly appreciated. It is recommended that each gift is approximately $50 or less. When dropping off your gifts at church, remember to include the Senior’s Name and Number.

Family Gift Info
It is recommended that you do not purchase extremely high-priced items. Please do not wrap gifts for the child. You may include paper, ribbon and tape, if you wish. This allows the parents to wrap their children’s gifts. When dropping off your gifts at church, remember to include the Child’s Name and Family Number.

Update: Thank you for making our Christmas Angel Tree a success in 2024. We collected gifts for the children and seniors plus monetary donations for gifts and grocery gift cards. Each child was given toys and clothes from their list. The seniors received gifts from their list.

We also blessed 119 quilts made by the two quilting groups led by Pat Andrews. 19 quilts were given to the children, parents and seniors adopted by New Covenant Lutheran Church, 29 quilts were given to Hushabye Nursery, 46 quilts were given to AZ Blankets 4 Kids and 22 quilts were given to Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest for seniors and teens. 3 quilts were kept back for 2025.

November 2024

New Covenant Lutheran Church is collecting food and monetary donations for Thanksgiving Food Boxes to give to families in the Scottsdale community. We are supporting 4 families with 10 children through the Vista del Camino Center and 4 seniors through Scottsdale’s Senior Centers this Thanksgiving.

Items for a Food Box

2 boxes of Stuffing Mix2 cans of Green Beans
2 cans of Sweet Potatoes1 can of Cranberry Sauce
1 bag of Potatoes2 cans/boxes of Chicken Broth
2 cans/jars of Gravy1 box Jello/Pudding
2 cans of Corn

Monetary donations are needed to provide each family and each senior with a grocery store gift card to purchase meat and fresh items for Thanksgiving. Any extra money will be used to purchase food items needed to complete a Food Box or used for the Christmas Angel Tree since we will be supporting the same families and seniors.

Update: THANK YOU for your generosity with our Thanksgiving Food Boxes. With the items dropped off at church and the monetary donations given, we were able to provide our 4 seniors with $35 grocery gift cards. Our 4 families received very generous food boxes along with a $75 grocery gift card (though our family of 6 with multiple teens received a $125 grocery gift card).  Because of the church’s generosity, we probably had enough extra food for another 4 food boxes and that was also given to Vista del Camino Food Bank.

September 2024

For the month of September, we will be collecting donations of new and gently used coats, jackets and shoes along with new pairs of socks for the children at the Casa de la Miseracordia shelter in Nogales, Mexico run by Sister Lika and supported by Adele Resmer, retired pastor of New Journey Lutheran Church, Fountain Hills.

Items RequestedSizes Requested
Youth Shoes & SocksYouth Size 6 and up
Youth Coats & JacketsYouth Size Small and up

Casa de la Miseracordia is a shelter in Nogales, Mexico that provides shelter, safety and community for women, children and men who are waiting to seek asylum in the U.S. Sister Lika sees that everyone is included in the care of the property, inside and out. Families cook meals each day, while men provide security around the property. Still, others clean the facilities and tend the grounds. Children assist the adults in growing food in the gardens. Women and young people weave, sew and watch over the youngest children. Sister Lika coordinates with the Ministries of Education and Health to oversee the teachers, nurses and doctors who minister to the residents of the shelter. There is a constant need for food and supplies to sustain the families. This is a profound and meaningful ministry that we are in a position to support. The Grand Canyon Synod helps support this mission through a program known as Cruzando Fronteras.

Update: Thank you for your donations for our Sept. Monthly Mission. We received 28 pairs of shoes and 310 clothing items – coats, jackets, hoodies, sweatshirts, sweaters, socks, etc. along with $350 in monetary donations for Casa de la Miseracordia. Thank you again for your generosity

Rancho Santa Marta is a non-denominational Evangelical Christian Ministry for needy Mexican children. Their Mission and Vision is to expand the reach of the Gospel in their region of Mexico by meeting the needs for these children-at-risk. They provide this primarily on their 450-acre ranch property near San Vicente, a town 130 miles south of San Diego on the Baja California peninsula. Their two foundational programs are a home for homeless, orphaned or abused children and a kindergarten, elementary, junior high and high school with a special education mainstreaming program for children with learning disabilities. For more information, check out their website here.

Update: Thank You for your generosity. We collected $1,109 in monetary donations for Rancho Santa Marta.
